Sara Bareilles Brings ‘Good Grief’ Tour to Chicago Theatre Sept. 27–28

GRAMMY-winning, Tony and Emmy-nominated singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles has released her seventh studio album, Good Grief, ahead of a North American tour that will bring her to The Chicago Theatre for two nights, September 27 and 28.
The 14-track album marks Bareilles’ first studio release since 2019’s Grammy-winning Amidst the Chaos. Self-produced by Bareilles, Good Grief explores loss, healing and resilience, with contributions from Brandi Carlile, Aaron Dessner, Ingrid Michaelson, Andrea Gibson and others.
“This whole collection of songs felt like transmissions rather than a deliberate attempt to make sense of the world,” Bareilles said. “My deepest hope is that Good Grief provides some kind of comfort or catharsis.”
The album includes previously released singles “Home” and “Still Crying,” as well as “Just a Kid,” a tribute to Bareilles’ late friend and tour manager Chad Joseph. Its accompanying video incorporates archival footage from Bareilles’ early tours and footage of Joseph.
The making of the record is also chronicled in the documentary Sara Bareilles: Good Grief, directed by Josh Alexander. The film began its theatrical run September 2, including a Chicago engagement, and follows Bareilles’ return to the studio with longtime collaborators after seven years.
Bareilles launches the Good Grief Tour September 9 in Boston before arriving in Chicago later this month.
