Singer-songwriter Margaret Glaspy has shared a new live video for “Martin Luther King Jr.,” a track from her fourth full-length album, I Am Both, out now via ATO Records.
Directed by Ricky Chavez, the video arrives as Glaspy prepares to launch an extensive North American and European tour on Friday, September 11, in Minneapolis. The tour brings her to the Chicago area on Sunday, September 13, for Evanston Folk Festival in Evanston, Illinois.
“Martin Luther King Jr.” draws inspiration from the words of the civil rights leader, whose speeches Glaspy says she has long listened to much like she listens to records.
“Martin Luther King Jr. is my hero,” Glaspy said. “This song was written because I wanted an excuse to echo his words. I have long listened to his speeches the way that I might listen to records. This was written in celebration of his dedication to love and unity.”
Produced by three-time Grammy Award winner Joe Henry, I Am Both finds Glaspy embracing contradiction, complexity and self-acceptance across 11 tracks. Glaspy recorded the album during three days of sessions at Reservoir Studios in New York City with drummer and percussionist Jay Bellerose, keyboardist Patrick Warren and bassist Ross Gallagher.
The album follows Glaspy’s 2023 release, Echo the Diamond.
Following her Evanston appearance, Glaspy’s tour continues throughout North America before heading to Europe and the United Kingdom in October. She returns to the U.S. in November for another run of dates, with the tour currently scheduled to conclude December 12 in Sellersville, Pennsylvania.
I Am Both is available now via ATO Records.
