Wide Orbit Fires Up the Fun with ‘Buddy’ – Song of the Day 1

Chicago’s new jangly indie-band Wide Orbit announced their debut album ‘Introducing… Wide Orbit’ this summer with lead single “Buddy” off of the label 22TWENTY (Oracle Sisters, Cornelia Murr). While the record sounds a bit like 90s slackerdom on the surface, the songwriter Ryan Tuohy also has a deep reverence for 60s and 70s classics. The band has often been compared to The Byrds with their use of bright, 12-string guitars.

Wide Orbit recorded the album in a tiny room outside Chicago, the core of the album was tracked live, imbuing the record with a magnetic and loose energy. “Buddy” is a freewheeling and feel-good single that warmly introduces the project and the upcoming album.

Tuohy said of the single that it’s “the final track written for our album — it’s a heartfelt tribute to my cat Otis and the quiet moments that shape us. With Buddy announcing our debut album Introducing… Wide Orbit, the single is a glimpse into the record: putting songwriting first and blending rich twelve-string textures with full-band harmonies.”
