Soft rock’n’soul songwriter Stephen Day has released his fourth full-length album, Stephen Day, today via Riser House. The 13-track album marks a deeply personal chapter for the Nashville-based artist, who says he had wanted to make a self-titled record since first picking up a guitar as a high school student in Georgia.

Produced by Day with longtime collaborator Micah Tawlks and multi-GRAMMY-winning producer Ian Fitchuk, Stephen Day moves between soul, R&B, rock’n’roll, and pop. The album was recorded live in the studio with Day’s band, including Matt Chancey on bass, David Crutcher on keys, Fitchuk on drums, Kevin Daily on auxiliary guitar, and Scooter Spicer on percussion.

The album includes previously released singles “Rock Bottom Baby,” “You Wouldn’t Know,” and “Cry Baby,” the latter accompanied by a new visualizer. Day describes “Cry Baby” as a two-sided breakup song about a relationship where the chemistry did not quite work, despite both people wanting it to.

Elsewhere, “Mama, I Found Your Guitar” reflects on the guitar Day discovered in his mother’s closet as a child, while “Don’t Leave Me Like This” explores his fear of losing his wife following her serious medical surgeries.
