Sparklmami Announces Debut Album in this body Out June 5th, Shares Vibrant New Single “no te vayas”

Multidisciplinary Chicago artist Sparklmami announces her debut album in this body, arriving June 5 via Verve Records and slowplay. Alongside the announcement, she unveils the album’s opening track, “no te vayas,” a jubilant single that blends jazz and funk while serving as an inviting introduction to the musical and spiritual landscape of in this body. The track arrives with a new self-directed music video featuring a cameo from Andre Gibson of the renowned Chicago ensemble Universal Togetherness Band.
Speaking about the “no te vayas” video, Sparklmami explains, “As an undergrad in my video art class, I was introduced to The Chicago Party – basically a public access television talent show documenting Chicago arts in the mid-80s. I remember being so fascinated by not only the talent on the show, but feeling the DIY spirit that continues to carry Chicago culture forward.
One of the groups that I saw perform on the show was the Universal Togetherness Band, who embodied that Chicago energy where if you want to do something, you just have to make it happen. When I was visualizing the world of “no te vayas”, I immediately knew it was going to be a party, and that I wanted to honor the Chicago community who had inspired me and been a part of my journey as an artist. I am grateful to Andre for bridging his past to my present and recreating the vibe of the most formative media from my childhood. He will always be a legend to me.”
In this body unfolds like a series of vividly imagined dreams, diving deep into Sparklmami’s psyche while channeling imaginative flashes inspired by her childhood. The album draws from a wide spectrum of influences, including the shimmering jazz traditions of 1970s Brazil and the timeless Mexican boleros that filled her home growing up. Expansive and free-flowing, in this body allows Sparklmami to fully inhabit the nuances of her identity without restraint. Much of the album was recorded in single takes, capturing spontaneous moments of expression as she delivered vocals and ideas directly from her subconscious.
That spirit of openness and vulnerability extends throughout the album’s collaborative sessions, where Sparklmami and her band shaped the music through improvisation and collective creativity. Executive producers Eddie Burns (drums) and William Corduroy (bass) joined Alec Trickett (percussion), Josh Jessen (keys, synths), and Kenneth Leftridge Jr. (saxophone) in bringing the project to life, with Sparklmami guiding the ensemble as its bold and imaginative conductor.
The album also features contributions from a broader creative circle, including Nico Segal (known for work with The Social Experiment and Neil Young), Alex Santilli of Thee Sacred Souls, Raphael Olivier (with credits including Etienne Daho, Yael Naim, and the National Jazz Orchestra), Adlai Reinhart (associated with Shawnee Dez), and Chris Misch (whose credits include Metro Boomin, Gunna, and Bobby McFerrin). Rooted in connection and community, in this body reflects a deep love for family, collaboration, and the transformative power of creating new worlds together.
Sparklmami first introduced listeners to her sound with the impactful 2024 singles “fajas” and “running,” both of which were later performed as part of a live Elevator Music session showcasing key collaborators from her band. Last month, she revisited “running” with a refreshed release featuring an invigorated remix from acclaimed Los Angeles producer Mndsgn, alongside a live version recorded during a session with her Chicago-based collaborators. Following the re-release, Sparklmami joined Rio Kosta on tour across California and Texas, and recently shared the stage with Spanish artist rusowsky for a sold-out hometown performance at Thalia Hall.
