The Strokes returned home October 5 for a sold-out headline show at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in New York City, performing for 40,000 fans. Beach House, TV on the Radio and Fcukers joined the lineup, with the band closing its career-spanning set with “Ode To The Mets” and covering Blonde Redhead’s “This Is Not.”
Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made surprise appearances to introduce the band, while Chris Smalls and Lee Camp later joined The Strokes on stage. Julian Casablancas also moderated an S.O.S. – Earth Is A Mess live event at the venue.
The Strokes continue their completely sold-out European run before heading to South America and Australia. The tour supports the band’s new album, Reality Awaits, its first album in six years.
Released to acclaim from Vogue, The Guardian, The Los Angeles Times, Financial Times, Stereogum, Consequence, NME and Paste, Reality Awaits was recorded with producer Rick Rubin, who previously worked with the band on 2020’s The New Abnormal.
The Strokes are a New York City band whose 2001 debut helped define the sound of a generation.
