Panchiko Live Review: Sold-Out Chicago Show Proves Nostalgia Still Hits Hard (2026)

British dream pop group Panchiko played to a sold-out crowd at House of Blues on April 28, 2026. Before doors opened, commuters heading home from work saw a line stretching from the venue’s entrance on Dearborn Street around the corner and down Wacker Drive – a 0.4-mile-long stretch of excited young fans in their best nostalgic punk outfits.

Panchiko Live Review: Sold-Out Chicago Show Proves Nostalgia Still Hits Hard (2026) 1
Sundots by Kat Williams

Sundots, a dreamy indie rock band from Connecticut, opened the show with a mix of new and already released original songs. Their set was constructed with gentle riffs, dark lyrics over bright guitar and bass tones, and commanding drums that invited the crowd in. As the room filled with teens eagerly awaiting the headliner, even the back row of the sold-out crowd listened in on Sundots. There was plenty of chatting between songs, but the opener definitely caught the audience’s ears.

Towards the end of their set, Sundots switched up the vibe with a groove from drummer Nick and guitarist Jake, and a tasty layer of harmonies from Drew (lead vocals, guitar), Teo (synth, shaker, guitar, vocals), and Austin (bass, vocals). Heads bobbed throughout the audience while Teo danced with the shaker onstage. They slowed it down to end the set with “This Life,” which began with sweet restraint and built into something that moved on its own. As the final notes of their set rang out in the House of Blues Music Hall, someone in the crowd shouted: “We love you!”

By now, the venue was completely packed. A hum of anticipation filled the room. A wave of screaming washed from the barricade to the back row and probably shook the merch table when Panchiko took the stage. To be clear, these were not casual whoops and cheers. These were the starstruck screams of teenagers in the early days of their concert-going lives. The energy was contagious.

Within a few seconds, it was clear that the excitement was earned.

Panchiko ripped open their set with “Stabilizers for Big Boys,” one of the most popular tracks from their lost-and-rediscovered debut record D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L>. From the opening riff, thousands of phone cameras were out and recording. Owain Davies (lead vocals, guitar) used his voice as a weapon, cutting through the room like a blade. The rage of the song was balanced by the fact that everyone on stage was genuinely happy to be there. Their smiles beamed as bright as the stage lights.

Andy Wright (guitar, keyboard, vocals) stepped up to the keys to a fresh wave of screaming, to play the sweet, bouncing intro to “Ginkgo,” the title track of their 2025 album. Fans reached toward the stage as if the song could hold their hand.

Throughout the set, Panchiko’s skill and control never wavered. Davies displayed such a range of textures in his vocal performance, occasionally using effects to make a point, but certainly not relying on them. Shaun Farraday (bass) balanced thick tones and heavy riffs with Wright’s playful keys.

With every song, a new voice would ring out from the crowd shouting, “This one’s my favorite!” That was no accident. With a few minutes remaining in their allotted set time, Davies asked the crowd, “Is there anything you want to hear that we haven’t played yet?”

By the end of the night, everyone was sweating and smiling.

Most of the fans filling the House of Blues on Tuesday weren’t even born when Panchiko’s debut album was released in 2000, but they connect with it like it’s their own. Panchiko’s skill, playfulness, and (of course) angst prove that their live show is an open door into the nostalgia of now.
