Matt Halper and Eli Sones, the unstoppable DJ/Producer duo known as Two Friends, performed an explosive, next-level set on Perry’s stage at this year’s Lollapalooza Saturday night. The set included a full drum line, surprise guests, a massive announcement, and a jaw-dropping 500-drone sky show (which included 100 pyro drones) – All on top of their signature, high-energy bangers! Check out the set here:

Earlier That Day

Earlier that day, I had the chance to sit down with them backstage to discuss their latest single, “No One Else,” what it takes to become a DJ/Producer, and more!

Their most recent single, “No One Else” featuring Corbyn Beeson, premiered on July 11th, and Eli revealed, “I’m going to let you in on a little secret, he’s here and he’ll be coming out tonight to do that one together. So that’s really fun. He’s a great dude and sounds amazing.”

Eli continued, “We’ve actually been able to do a couple of shows where we bring him on out and do it live, and that’s been great.” Since the song premiered, it has gotten almost 53,000 views on YouTube and almost 900,000 streams on Spotify since the day this was published.

Not letting any dust settle on the last single, Two Friends shared the news about their upcoming single, “Way It Was” featuring Quinn XCII, Eli shared, “…it’s coming out on August 15th, Quinn XCII is someone who we’ve just been a fan of his music for a long time and it felt like there should be a collaboration; [it] just felt like it would be a good fit. We tried for a while, but the timing wasn’t right, and finally, we were able to get in the studio with him, and we’re very excited.”

Having performed in Chicago many times before, Matt remarked at how they love Chicago’s lakes and the skyline, and it was announced during their set that Two Friends will be returning next year for BIG BOOTIE LAND Vol. 27 at Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island on May 26th. Big Bootie Mix Vol. 26 came out on June 5th and can be enjoyed here.

When the announcement was made public, drones spelled out “BIG BOOTIE LAND 5/16/2026” above them, and the crowd went wild. One person on TikTok even remarked how they were ‘gobsmacked’ at the news and how great the Two Friends’ set was.

“That’s what we love about our crowds that we’ve built up, they kind of come from all different ages, places, and backgrounds of music. They’re not necessarily only the type that are exclusively listening to dance music, and we like that, we like that they have an open mind, they like all types of genres, and I think that’s fun sometimes. They may never have heard a DJ and may not know what to expect, and we try to put on a good show so that they become a fan.”

I asked them if they had any music career advice that they could share. Eli responded, “The number one thing to say is, you’ve gotta put in the hours, you’ve gotta dive in. The hope is that you find a way to make it fun, which, for us, came pretty naturally. It is really fun, and we decided to dive in. So as long as you find that balance of making sure it’s fun because that’s going to motivate you to put in the hours, and then you put in the hours, and then it gets more fun. So, you’ve gotta start somewhere.”

With that said, being a DJ can be a competitive industry to be in, and I had to know, who would win in a DJ battle between them? Eli started by saying he wasn’t sure how that would go, but then remembered seeing a silent disco online, “…everyone was wearing headphones and there were two channels where they were able to measure which channel is getting more love in real time and they got points and power-ups where you can pause your opponent

“Oh, it would be close, Matt added. “We both have a nice repertoire in our heads, but this guy goes deep, though,” pointing to Eli. “So, I don’t know, it might be him.” Eli concluded by saying, “I’ll take the ‘W'”.

But thankfully, there is no competition between these Two Friends, only great music, great vibes, and maybe a little PATRÓN from time to time to celebrate their friendship. Check out photos from the Lollapalooza set and North American tour dates below.
