Detroit-born, Los Angeles-based artist Syd Taylor stepped into her own last year with the release of After the Fact, a 12-track debut that captures a transformative chapter defined by identity, honesty, and the isolating spiral of self-examination. Written and self-produced, the album marks Taylor’s formal introduction as a solo artist following a decade in Stereo Jane alongside her twin sister, Emilia Paige. Framed by Taylor as “a journey of self-discovery and self-understanding,” the project delivers a raw, empowering body of work that foregrounds her striking vocal range and unfiltered songwriting voice.
Later this month, Taylor will join Goldie Boutilier on tour, beginning February 24 at El Club in her hometown of Detroit and concluding April 4 at The Kessler Theater in Dallas. “I’m such a fan of Goldie,” Taylor shares. “I can’t wait to dance along to all of her songs every night. This tour truly feels like the perfect fit.”

Syd Taylor’s debut solo LP, After the Fact, took shape during an intensive three-month creative stretch in her Los Angeles apartment. The process marked a decisive shift from her lifelong musical partnership with her twin sister in Stereo Jane, prompting Taylor to confront and define her identity independently — both as an artist and as an individual. After years spent in collaborative mode, she turned inward, committing to a project that was entirely her own.
That period of self-examination became the foundation of After the Fact, an album written and produced solely by Taylor. The result is a candid, unguarded body of work that captures her emerging artistic voice and a newly claimed sense of confidence. “It’s the first time I’ve been able to sit down and make something truly for me,” Taylor explains.
“No one telling me what genre to lean into, what producer to hand my demos to, or even how to present myself. I know I’m not perfect, so why pretend to be some perfectly polished pop version of myself? I wanted to get as far away from that as possible. And in doing that, I made something that feels perfect to me — which is imperfect.”
