CHICAGO, IL (September 23, 2025) – Chicago’s Ratboys mark a new era with the release of their momentous single and video, “Light Night Mountains All That,” their first release on their new label home, New West Records. Alongside the single, the band has announced a North American tour set for early 2026.

The track follows The Window — one of 2023’s most acclaimed albums — which transformed Ratboys from indie favorites to, as Stereogum put it, “feverishly fixated upon.” With “Light Night Mountains All That,” the band seizes that spotlight and refuses to let go.

Singer/guitarist Julia Steiner delivers her most thrilling vocal performance yet, amplified by Dave Sagan (guitar), Marcus Nuccio (drums), Sean Neumann (bass), and co-producer Chris Walla on piano. Steiner describes the song as the band’s “wormhole jam,” propelled by an unconventional time structure, electrifying instrumentation, and extraterrestrial guitar textures.

“My original idea was to write an ultra-high energy folk song, in the style of The Dodos’ Visiter, with somewhat spooky, mysterious, and pastoral lyrics – like what Chris Otepka of The Heligoats might conjure up on a mushroom trip,” says Steiner. “This song really took shape during our initial writing session up at the Driftless Cabin in Wisconsin last March; the guys and I nearly went insane fleshing out the arrangement and its odd timings together. I wrote the lyrics during that original demoing trip, centered around the idea of a fantastic, rural vision-quest where the days and nights blend together and nothing is quite as it seems.”

The accompanying video, directed by Nuccio, was filmed at a sprawling farm in Central Illinois. “We used a bunch of DV cameras to convene with some benevolent rock and roll ghosts we met along the way,” adds Steiner.

The Window earned widespread acclaim from The New York Times, NPR Music, Rolling Stone, Billboard, Stereogum, and Uproxx, while Pitchfork hailed it as “a level-up record.” Following its release, Ratboys made their national TV debut on CBS Saturday Morning, appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’s #LateShowMeMusic series, recorded their first-ever KEXP session, and played sold-out shows nationwide.

Ratboys will hit the road across North America in early 2026, bringing with them the raw chemistry that Paste praised as “unparalleled and irreplaceable.” A full list of dates is below, with tickets on sale this Friday at 10am ET.
