New York City’s underground has always had a way of hardening bands in the best possible way. For the members of King Falcon, that grit has translated into momentum. The alternative rock trio returns this week with “Holding Out,” a bright, hook-driven single that leans into optimism without losing the edge that defines their sound.
Built on glistening guitar textures and an easy, melodic vocal, “Holding Out” captures the tension between hesitation and forward motion. The song centers on the internal shift that happens when uncertainty gives way to resolve. As frontman and primary songwriter Michael Rubin explains, “‘Holding Out’ is the moment you stop standing at the crossroads, choose a path that feels right, and walk it with quiet faith that better days are on their way.”
The song’s sun-soaked visual counterpart amplifies its easygoing confidence, relocating the band from city streets to the open air of Venice Beach. Bathed in golden-hour light, with skatepark runs and waves crashing at dusk, the setting mirrors the track’s relaxed but purposeful energy. Rubin explains the instinct behind the location choice: “The song just felt like California — so filming the video there felt like the most natural decision we could make. The skateboarding comes from Hayden McKenna, who was not only incredible to spend the day with, but has this rare ability to make the impossible look effortless.“
The release also arrives with significant exposure. The video made its debut via New Noise Magazine, underscoring the growing attention around the trio as they continue to expand beyond their hometown roots.
Formed in Brooklyn in 2020, King Falcon — Rubin (vocals/lead guitar), Joe Conserva (bass), and Dipayan “Dip” Chakraborty (drums) — have built their reputation the old-fashioned way: onstage. Over the past two years, the band has logged more than 150 shows nationwide, sharpening a live set that balances vintage guitar tones with a distinctly modern bite.
The numbers reinforce the buzz. The trio has surpassed 1.5 million streams overall, with 900,000 coming in 2025 alone. Their 2025 single “Plastic Crown” climbed to No. 1 on Amazon Music’s Breakthrough Rock playlist for multiple weeks and debuted at No. 45 on MediaBase Radio. Industry recognition has followed, with MXDWN naming them “Best New Artist” and Guitar World calling them “one of NYC’s most exciting indie-rock bands.” Along the way, they’ve shared stages with The Struts and Sublime with Rome, positioning themselves firmly in the conversation around the next wave of guitar-driven rock.
This spring, King Falcon will bring “Holding Out” to audiences across North America, joining Des Rocs on select dates through March and April. The run signals another step forward for a band that has steadily scaled from Brooklyn clubs to national stages.
If “Holding Out” is any indication, King Falcon aren’t waiting around for the future — they’re building it in real time, one chorus and one crowded room at a time.
