Jeff Tweedy Announces Triple Album Twilight Override, Shares New Single “Feel Free”

Jeff Tweedy will release his forthcoming triple album Twilight Override on September 26 via dBpm Records, followed by an extensive North American and European tour this fall. Today, he unveils one of the record’s standout tracks, “Feel Free,” alongside a performance video directed by Lance Bangs. The acoustic, breezy single serves as a meditation on self-expression, belonging, and presence, with Tweedy singing: “Feel free // Taking it slow and easy // Even though your heart is racing // Feel free.”
In celebration of the release, Tweedy is launching a unique fan project inspired by the song’s closing line: “a song that never ends.” Listeners are invited to submit their own lyrics, which Tweedy will weave into an extended version of “Feel Free.” The special recording will be shared later this year on his Substack, Starship Casual. Recorded and self-produced at his Chicago studio, The Loft, Twilight Override is a sprawling three-disc work that embraces creativity in the face of overwhelming darkness. Engineered and mixed by longtime collaborator Tom Schick, the album features contributions from Chicago-based friends and family including James Elkington, Sima Cunningham, Macie Stewart, Liam Kazar, and Tweedy’s children, Spencer and Sammy.
While each of the three chapters stands on its own, together they form a broader reflection on past, present, and future. Tweedy notes that the narrative wasn’t pre-planned but revealed itself in the process:
