International Jazz Day

Celebrating 15 Years of International Jazz Day & the 250th Anniversary of the United States
UNESCO, International Jazz Day, and Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz logos

Established by the United Nations and UNESCO in 2011 with the vision of Chicago’s own legendary jazz musician Herbie Hancock, International Jazz Day brings the world together every April 30 to celebrate jazz’s role in fostering peace, intercultural dialogue, and mutual understanding. This global initiative unites countries and communities, demonstrating the power of music to transcend borders.

Chicago is the Global Host City for International Jazz Day 2026, as it marks its 15th anniversary on April 30, 2026. Jazz has deep roots in Chicago, and Ravinia is proud to be a leader of the Chicago Jazz Alliance, joining with partners around the city to make this celebration possible.

Ravinia—alongside jazz musicians, arts organizations, music educators, venues, and neighbors across Chicago, in collaboration with the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz and UNESCO—is spearheading a month-long program of education and community connection, including the featured concerts listed below.
