From the South Side of Chicago to L.A. and back to Chicago for a special Chicago Made Showcase set at another great Lollapalooza. Feather blew back into the windy city with her soulful sounds and playful spirit, letting everyone know what she’s all about.

Joined by her dancers and backed by DJ Cash Era, and a full band, she started with her new single, “Stayyy,” which just dropped on July 31st. She and her dancers employed seriously sharp dance moves throughout the song, garnering significant loving reactions from the crowd.

For her second song of the two-song set, she performed “Lit Again” with Trey Songz, which featured NIA and Ray J on the single. This song is where Feather flipped the script and brought the fun to the stage with bubbles and two large balloon balls tossed out to the audience.

“That was super fun, the crowd went crazy on that part, I was really trying to bring the audience to my world. You know, I just want everybody to have a great time.”

Everybody’s going to have an even greater time when Feather puts out her debut release soon. She wouldn’t divulge whether it was going to be an EP or full album or exact release date at the time of this interview, but I think it’s safe to say that it’s going to be LIT!

Hitting the rewind button for a moment and going back to Feather’s early days on the South Side, she revealed she was a huge Michael Jackson fan ever since she was four or five. She studied everything about him, knowing she was going to be a performer like him one day. Her father asked, “Are you still listening to him?”

Then in high school, “I started taking my interest in music much more seriously, I recorded my own songs, and it kind of went on from there; I just never stopped, and now I’m here.”

So there’s a great tip for everyone out there: don’t stop believing in your dream of becoming a performer, don’t stop believing in yourself.

With Feather having moved on over to L.A., I had to get her take on the differences between the L.A. music scene and Chicago’s scene. “Oh my gosh, it’s a huge difference. Everyone’s their own character out there; there’s so much talent, but I feel there’s so much natural talent here. I don’t know, it’s different, that’s all I can say, it’s different.”

After Feather’s debut release, she plans to hit the road and work on a video for her song, “Deep In,” with Jeremih, which was released late last year. I suggested she come back to Chicago to film this one, you know, “Deep In” (the heart of Chicago), and pull all her Chicago friends in on it. She seemed to like the idea, so who knows? Maybe we’ll see her back in Chi-town very soon!

For Feather’s final words that she wanted to share, she thanked Lollapalooza, us, Chicago Made Showcase, and the Department Of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) for the platform, but also her friends, family, and fans for all the tremendous support she’s received over the years.
