Global pop powerhouse Chappell Roan is on a winning streak like no other. Her brand-new single “The Subway” (Amusement / Island Records) has stormed the charts, debuting at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100—her highest chart position yet—and claiming the second-biggest Spotify streaming debut of 2025.

In just days, the track has racked up 73.6+ million global streams, topped both the US and Global Spotify Singles Charts, and secured the #1 spot on the UK Singles Chart—making Roan the only artist this year with two UK chart-toppers. The song also joins her growing list of mega-hits “Pink Pony Club,” “Good Luck, Babe!” and “The Giver” as her fourth Top 5 Hot 100 single in just 12 months. Meanwhile, the official music video has reigned as YouTube’s #1 trending music video since release.

The good news keeps coming: Roan has completely sold out her Visions of Damsels & Other Dangerous Things all-ages US pop-up shows this fall. The run includes:

  • Forest Hills Stadium in New York (Sept 20, 21, 23, 24)
  • Museum and Memorial Park, Kansas City, MO (Oct 3, 4)
  • Brookside at the Rose Bowl, Pasadena, CA (Oct 10, 11)
  • As always, $1 from every ticket sold will benefit organizations supporting trans youth.

To celebrate, Roan has restocked the limited-edition copper metallic 7” vinyl—featuring “The Subway” (Side A) and the previously unreleased demo “I Hate It Here” (Side B)—after the first pressing sold out instantly.

Produced and co-written with Daniel Nigro, “The Subway” is the gut-punch ballad fans have been begging for since Roan first performed it live last summer. It captures the quiet devastation of missed romantic connections, woven into some of her most vulnerable, poignant lyrics to date. Her tender soprano swells into unforgettable, full-volume catchphrases like:

“I made a promise, if in four months this feeling ain’t gone, well f*ck this city, I’m moving to Saskatchewan!”Chappell Roan

Hype around the track hit fever pitch after posters, murals, and Roan’s signature red hair popped up across New York—culminating in a viral video of a moving truck in Saskatchewan.

The Amber Grace Johnson–directed video, shot entirely on 35mm film in Manhattan, is Chappell Roan’s most ambitious yet—a high-camp, cinematic love letter to New York and “the one that got away.” In it, Roan’s iconic red locks fall away as she moves through ghostly subway encounters, garbage-strewn streets, and moments of unapologetic melodrama.

    Roan says:

“The cliche of ‘the girl that got away’ barely scratches the surface for me with this song. I wrote it as I was stumbling around New York with a broken heart and I kept envisioning us on every street, fire escape, coffee shop, park and yes… the subway.”Chappell Roan

“The Subway” follows her 2025 queer-country anthem “The Giver”, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart after premiering during her Saturday Night Live debut. The single’s release included a hotline teaser, national billboard takeover, and a collectible vinyl series showcasing Roan in outrageous service roles—from plumber to private investigator—earning NPR’s #1 performance of SNL’s 50th season.

Since 2020’s breakout “Pink Pony Club”, Roan has built an unstoppable legacy—blending camp, fantasy, and raw emotion into a live experience inspired by drag and burlesque. Her theatrical headline shows, viral festival appearances, and chart-topping singles have cemented her status as one of pop’s most exciting, larger-than-life voices.

Up next, Roan continues her global domination with appearances at Reading & Leeds, Edinburgh Summer Sessions, and more, following a summer that’s included headline sets at Primavera Sound and some of the largest festival crowds at Lollapalooza, ACL, Bonnaroo, and Gov Ball.
