(October 30, 2025) — Independent hip-hop visionary Aesop Rock has unveiled a surprise new album, I Heard It’s a Mess There Too, out now via Rhymesayers Entertainment. The 12-track project—available digitally today, with physical editions shipping from AesopRock.com and a retail release set for December 12—marks his second full-length release of 2025, underscoring his relentless creative momentum.
Rumors of the album began swirling last week after select fans reported receiving mysterious white-label test pressings in the mail—no artwork, no credits, just an unmarked record in a blank sleeve. Today, the mystery is solved with the project’s digital release and the premiere of the animated video for “Full House Pinball,” directed by longtime collaborator Justin “Coro” Kaufman.
Following the expansive, feature-heavy Black Hole Superette earlier this year, I Heard It’s a Mess There Too turns inward—built entirely from Aesop’s own production. The album pares back his signature density to explore space, simplicity, and human connection, weaving crisp drums, humming basslines, and poetic fragments that mirror the strange rhythm of communication in a disjointed world.
“The phrase ‘I Heard It’s a Mess There Too’ started as a lyric, but it got its hooks in me soon after,” Aesop explains. “It felt familiar, like something I’d said a thousand times while checking in with friends across different cities. The more I sat with it, the more it started to feel like the center of this project… It’s about observation and communication. Sonically, I wanted a reset—cleaner beats, more space, fewer layers. Just enough to get a wave rolling and not much more.”
Together, Black Hole Superette and I Heard It’s a Mess There Too represent two sides of Aesop Rock’s creative spectrum—one sprawling and surreal, the other sparse and searching. Released just months apart, they reaffirm his place as one of hip-hop’s most inventive and consistently forward-thinking artists.
I Heard It’s a Mess There Too is out now on all streaming platforms. Physical editions are shipping now, with retail release to follow December 12 via Rhymesayers Entertainment. Preorders are available at AesopRock.com.
